The Suits Game

Hi everyone,

Instead of reflecting on my accomplishments or stating my resolutions, I will share one of the happiest things I've discovered this year. To get to know the people I love, I suggested to play a game with a deck of cards and for each suit we assigned a topic and when a person plays that suit, they tell us a story about themselves relating to the topic. This game best serves its purpose when its played late at night where everyone has settled in and feels comfortable talking for a long period of time. The group can choose any slow-paced card game to use for this.

I started playing this game with several groups at sleepovers and parties at the start of last month. And never have I bonded so deeply with the people close to me. We have shared our regrets, our childhood, our relationships and even our guilty pleasures in a respectful way.

This has made me feel blessed because it felt like it broke down a barrier that has troubled me my whole life. That feeling of hanging out with friends I have known for years but never sharing much about myself, especially having to stay politically correct at social gatherings. I hope everyone has a chance to learn about their loved ones and learn about themselves through each other like I have this past month. Cheers and Happy New Years~
